COMB

(Make 3; do not finish off on the last one you make)

NOTE:  I used a size I crochet hook for the comb, but depending on your preference and the size of your hat, you may want to use a smaller or larger hook size to get the gauge you need.  I would say it’s best to use anything between a size G and J if you are using worsted weight yarn.

With red, ch 6, hdc in third ch from hook and next 2 chs, 4 hdc in next ch; working now on bottom part of chs, hdc in base of next 3 hdc and in base of beginning ch-2, F/O

ASSEMBLING COMB

On third section of comb, at last st where you did not finish off, ch 1, 3 sc across bottom of piece.  Place second piece next to the one you just finished, and continue with 3 sc across the bottom of it; repeat for third piece.  F/O with long tail and sew to top of hat.

BEAK

Do not join rows; work in the round
With yellow, ch 2
Row 1:  4 sc in second ch from hook
Row 2:  (Sc, inc) twice (6)
Row 3:  (2 sc, inc) twice (8)
Row 4:  (3 sc, inc) twice (10)
Finish off with long tail.  Flatten and sew to front of hat.

And you’re done!  J
